Nice People Magazine x Everpress
I was approached by my friends at Nice People Magazine who'd been asked by Everpress if they'd like to run a campaign! This happened right before Everpress came into uni so it was really great to be able to chat with Nick from Everpress about it.
The theme for the design was simply 'nice people doing nice things' which gave me a lot of wiggle room to play with ideas. I wanted to showcase the community and togetherness in Leeds and its spirit of creativity. My FMP work definitely impacted this design in terms of character design !

'Fruit Share' Personal Everpress Campaign
This was the first piece of work I did after lockdown and after I'd managed to settle a bit to living back home and wanted to try and get myself out of a creative slump. It was a completely overwhelming situation and I felt pretty helpless. I read that Leeds North & West Foodbank needed to urgently raise £25,000 to rent a larger premises to cope with the higher demand that Covid had caused. I thought I'd try and raise a bit of money to help so I designed a tshirt design on Everpress which I set for 2 weeks. I carved the design first in lino before adding textures and colour.
Managed to raise £395 to donate which was incredible
Orla Gartland Print / Tshirt
Orla Gartland approached me last year to produce a tshirt design for her tour which was a great commission to work on and I learned some basic Illustrator skills in the process.
She got in touch with me again in February for a quick turn-around piece that she wanted as a limited edition print to go alongside the first 100 CD sales. Her EP is called Freckle Season and the visual symbol throughout is a broken heart. - so I played around with the concept of the Queen of Hearts (broke) playing card. There are things I'd change about the design looking back now but I'm happy with it considering the turnaround ! (You can see that I was influenced by how much Illimat I was playing at the time!)
Later on Orla got in contact with me again and asked if she would be able to use the design for a tshirt. If this happened last year I would've probably just said yes thats fine out of awkward politeness but I'm grateful that I've gained some confidence and learned my worth through PP sessions and experience and I asked for a licensing fee for her to use the design on tshirts.
Orla is really lovely to work with, so supportive and provides great ideas. I also love that she sends voicenotes for feedback - feels so much more personal than just an email !
Sea Legs - Cupboards
I've been lucky enough to work on the visuals for one of my boyfriends bands Sea Legs for a couple of years now, and they asked me in April if I could design the cover for their latest single Cupboards.
I was in a bit of an unconfident slump at the time and I really struggled with this piece - I was trying to do too much and nothing was working out and it was really doing my head in. In the end I did what I've done in the past when things are feeling stale and just played around with some ephemera and collaging to produce images and things got much better from then on.
I produced a bunch of small collages (seen in the slideshow playing around with shadow at the bottom) which were really fun to make - but they wanted something more muted and cohesive so I fiddled around on Photoshop for a while before arriving at this final design:
