I watched a YouTube video about what would happen if humans disappeared suddenly
Bit of an irritating patronising video but some really interesting food for thought
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy7Q6wazD_E
eg:
- pets would die, decorative dog breeds extinct
- power plant explosions
- all walkways covered in vegetation
- large dogs breed with wolves
- Las Vegas, Dubai buried in sand
- swamps reappear across America
- 50 million years later, last traces of us will be plastic.
* Lots of interesting imagery to work from here. Think I'm going to go down the route of exploring the natural world takeover that would happen if humans were to disappear. Human-less utopia??
Abandoned places, trace of humans fading, world recovering.
PROJECT PROPOSAL
An imagined world in which all humans have suddenly disappeared (disclaimer: this is a good thing!!! not a dystopian project)
Big up mother nature
Delve into the relationship between the natural world and the man-made world
Find and explore the beauty of simple natural forms.
|Push myself, try new outcomes: printmaking/bookbinding/3D etc
I want this project to make people understand how the world could flourish if humans were to disappear. Serve as a platform for questions to be asked. I don't want to create an angry "you're killing the planet" type exhibition, but more of a visually pleasing project that when people read what its about they might begin to realise and understand what I'm trying to achieve, therefore questioning their own lifestyles?
Not sure what I'm going to make yet but excited at the visual stimulus this project will provide me! Will be nice to do a project with no figures in it too as I've been quite figure/character orientated at the moment, will be nice to push myself away from this.

- visual inspiration - Shengshan Island, abandoned fishing village in China. Could be interesting to try some 3D, make some overgrowing models?
initial image making - playing around with some simple natural forms, what would the world appear as post-human - fully natural forms, takeover
