DAVID HOCKNEY - ETCHINGS
Absolutely chuffing beautiful. I was using these as inspiration for the single cover I was designing for the band Sea Legs during the Summer and then fell right back in love with them when approaching this brief. The delicateness and ethereal nature of these etchings is just beautiful. Stood at stared at a wall of them in Manchester Art Gallery for quite a while. Also took a trip to the Salt Mills to see some more in person, blown away. Hockney is the man. I can't remember how to do etching and feel it would be a very time consuming process whilst I have so many other printmaking methods I need to be experimenting with. Will try monotype to try and get a similar quality.
CZECHOSLOVAKIAN MATCHBOXES
Blooming lovely. The colours and shape based design are great. Work really well when viewed as a collection. Really into the texture created. Could try printing onto a textured thick paper and see what results I can get? The limited colour consideration is something I should start considering too, done really effectively here.
SOPHIE LECUYER
Beautiful surreal magical images. Misty almost? Real sense of atmosphere and using printmakings advantages to create this.
JOO HEE YOON
Screenprinting master of colour mixing. Great use of creating a third colour by combining the two. I love the compositions she uses and the layering (eg the trees in the tiger image).
LAURA CARLIN
Not a printmaker although Laura Carlin is my favourite illustrator and I'm interested in creating the same raw and cathartic imagery seen in her naive illustrations through printmaking. How can I translate the way I like to work so that it works well within print?
